Wisdom and Discretion With A Keen Sense of God’s Timing, Know the Truth - John 11 Part 3

Wisdom and Discretion With

A Keen Sense of God’s Timing

In the last blog we saw that Jesus spoke to the corpse of Lazarus and then to those watching what happened,

John 11:43   Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”

44   And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

I wrote about the freedom we share as a result of being loosed and let go.” You can click this link if you haven’t read it. https://lnkd.in/gCjPg6U

By now the Pharisees jealousy of Jesus was at a fever pitch and they began to plot how to kill Him. (Sounds like the Trump hating politicians in the US).

John 11:47   Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. 48   If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”

53   Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death

Jesus showed great wisdom and discretion because He knew that the time He had left to accomplish all the Father sent Him to Earth to accomplish was growing short.

John 11:54   Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there remained with His disciples.

Instead of confronting the Pharisees again, He and the disciples skipped town. To not confront the Pharisees as he had done so many times before reflected His WISDOM AND DISCRETION WITH A KEEN SENSE OF GOD’S TIMING. Although they didn’t realize it, the disciples prep.-time to transcend from disciples to Apostles was winding down. Jesus wanted to impart as much as possible to their minds and spirits; He knew that His final Passover with them was very soon. If you listen carefully you can hear His heart ticking at the pace of the Father’s timetable. Our hearts can too when we walk in the Spirit and restrain the fleshly desires.

We saw wisdom in Jesus even when he was a small child.

Luke 2:40   And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

Then we see Jesus at 12 years old talking with the learned scholars in the temple.

Luke 2: 46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions.

47   All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

48   His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.”

49   “But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

50   But they didn’t understand what he meant.

There’s nothing stated or implied in these verses about Mary and Joseph not being very smart people. They simply couldn’t conceive that their adolescent son could interact, at the level Jesus did, in such a discussion of the Word with the learned scholars. Jesus could because He was, indeed He is, the Word incarnate.

Back to John 11:54 - Jesus demonstrated great wisdom and discretion in not going among the Jews, but skipping town and avoiding a confrontation with the Pharisees at this time. He knew the coming events; this would be His last Passover before His crucifixion.

OK, as I always try to do, let’s apply this teaching to where the rubber meets the road. How does this help us in the here and now? Oh, I am so thankful that Holy Spirit is such an integral part of my life, and I trust he is in yours also.

John 16:13   However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Here is a hypothetical story to bring up an important question to ponder. One day a middle school student brought home a test that he got a 98% on. He almost never got such a high grade. Proudly he showed it to his Grandfather. His Grandfather asked, “That’s fantastic young man, but how did you get so smart?” The boy blushed unsure how to answer. He was afraid to lie to his Grandfather so he blurts out, “I finally figured out how to cheat.” …If you’re laughing, no doubt you can relate.

We want our hearts to tick like Jesus’ heart does and not like this cheating middle school boy’s heart. So the question is, now, where do we go to get this wisdom, discretion and keen sense of timing that Jesus continuously exhibits? This is a very big topic that we won’t dissect here, but here are some basic, scriptural fundamentals. You may be very familiar with them but it’s always good to get back to basic fundamentals.

1st it’s a lifelong process:

Romans 12:1   I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2   And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Verse one is the requirement to be able to experience the transformation. We present ourselves as a living sacrifice; we surrender our will to God the Father. We can as much transform ourselves as we can save our own souls from hell. The Father sent Holy Spirit to “guide you into all truth.” We always have the choice to accept or reject God’s absolutes. I recently heard that there are those on the political Left that are pushing the nonsensical lie that truth is relative- however you feel about something is how it is. How absurd. Jesus was the Word incarnate and is absolutely the absolute Truth incarnate. Let Him rule your heart and experience Absolute Truth that absolutely liberates you.

2nd there is some work involved.

It is imperative that we continuously study God’s Word every day. As we prayerfully do so the Lord teaches us things.

3rd  it is identifiable:

Prayer: Father you said,

James 1:5   If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Our nation, our world, are experiencing turmoil that has not been experienced for at least three generations. We hear many people’s opinions and differing views concerning the timing of the Rapture. Lord we need the blessing of supernaturally imparted wisdom from above. We need our steps guided by you. Help us to walk in the light of understanding the character of Jesus and with the power to walk in that light. Thank You for revealing WHAT MAKES JESUS TICK throughout the Bible. Give us wisdom and opportunity to save souls so that no one within our circle if influence misses the rapture.
